Do you ever find yourself day dreaming about the moment you get home, put on your pjs and crawl into bed for a peaceful night’s rest?
Sometimes a rough day can leave us wanting for pure relaxation and comfort. But once you are in your bed and you look around your space, do the feelings you were longing for follow you in? Do you find your space effortless and calming, or in a constant disarray? Outdated furniture, poor lighting, uncomfortable bedding and issues with scale can all affect the peace and rest that you get in your space.
Yeager Design & Interiors has seen a large increase in the number of customers wanting to improve their bedroom oasis, whether it is for their guest rooms or more importantly their master bedroom.
After a recent trip to the Atlanta Market, YDI brought home a vast array of headboards and bedding for our showroom. When deciding what items would make the cut, we focused on what we saw to be the latest trends as well as what would resonate for years to come in our clients’ homes.
Headboards and bed frames can drastically change the layout of a bedroom. We prefer to place the bed on the wall directly opposite the entrance door. When the bed is fully dressed, it never looks better than when it’s viewed straight on.
We predominately focused on upholstered headboards in all shades of neutral and gray, whether they were tufted, adorned with nail heads, or a simple clean-line design.
A charcoal upholstered headboard is a dramatic base for light and colorful linen and pillows. Adding a little bit of sparkle in the duvet and standard pillows layer with the fur Euro pillows to give the bed a luxurious feel
When it came to bedding, we noticed that blues and grays were the common thread in most showrooms. We made sure to choose bedding collections that would include a quilt, a duvet, a varied amount of decorative shams and pillows. It’s important to include these items in order to dress a bed in multiple layers of comfort.
The combination we recommend includes a charcoal gray tufted head and footboard. Due to the darkness of the fabric on the headboard, we chose to pair it with light and neutral bedding with a pop of aqua in the quilt. The duvet and standard shams, while soft and comfortable, also show a side of glamour in the silver shimmer stitching.
To continue to bring color onto the bed, watercolor floral pillows in aqua, turquoise and teal were placed to add another layer of décor. To bring the ultimate drama to the back however, we placed three large Euro pillows that are adorned with multiple layers of cream and white fur. Sometimes it’s nice to have a textured showpiece to be your anchor against the headboard.
On a recent client installation, we were charged with updating the master bedroom without having to do a clean sweep of everything in it. The client was not interested in painting any of her furniture or changing out any window treatments. This meant all of the changes had to come solely from the bedding and wall color.
If you have pieces that you love and have really invested money in, simply updating paint and bedding can change the entire feel of a room. A dark wood bedroom suite and gold window treatments are lightened by new white custom bedding and a custom paint mix of metallic silver on the walls
To make the biggest difference on the bed itself, we chose to get rid of the dark gold bedding since it was already set against gold window treatments and dark wood furniture. By switching to a simple, elegant white duvet cover and sheets, the room was instantly brightened. Custom Euro shams and accent pillows were chosen to play against the existing gold window treatments and tie the new metallic silver wall paint scheme together.
The pillows were hand stitched with crystals, sequins and ecru flowers and truly provided a sense of luxury and elegance.
Another fabulous client of ours challenged us with transforming her guest bedroom. She was tired of the boring paint and bedding scheme, wanted new window treatments, and was desperate to find a way to change her furniture without getting rid of it. She had inherited her mother-in-law’s seven-piece bedroom set, and while it wasn’t her favorite finish, it held great sentimental value to their family.
We decided this was the perfect opportunity for her to try Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan. She loved the idea, tackled all of the pieces and ended up with Chalk Paint masterpieces. She used Old White as her base paint and a custom wax that was a mixture of French Linen and Clear Wax.
Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan allowed our client to completely transform her mother-in-law’s bedroom furniture in to pieces that her family would treasure for generations. She used Old White as the base layer and mixed her own color of wax by adding French Linen to Clear Wax and brushed it on to the piece to let it collect in all of the beautiful carved details
The end result was a beautiful brush stroked bedroom set that lent a sense of French boutique style and assured its place in the family for generations to come.
We chose a paint that combined gray, beige and taupe to offset the neutral qualities of the furniture as well as pull together the custom window treatments. The panels were made of fine linen banded with gray and silver beading and sequins that accented the decorative pillows on the bed.
The bedding ensemble started with a base layer of clean white duvet cover on top of a beige quilt with silver stitching. Crisp white standard shams and jeweled accent pillows finished off the look and created an inviting experience for any guest to come.
The last layer of comfort for the room was a jute textured rug that was placed halfway underneath the bed to pull all of the design features together.

By taking bits and pieces from each of these examples, you can easily make small and large changes to your space, whether it be your own master bedroom or a haven for your treasured guests. Provide yourself and others with an oasis of rest and relaxation by addressing your furniture scale and finish, providing soft and luxurious linens, and inviting elements of design.
